Day 22: Oh, hello sweet tooth!

Let’s start off with the not-sweet delicious and nutritious parts of my day, shall we? For breakfast, I picked up a meal at the gym after CrossFit – Vegetable Medley Frittata with Asparagus. This was my favorite frittata yet; after 30 seconds in the microwave, it really tasted like it was just cooked!

For lunch I was lucky enough to get out of the office for a work lunch at Hill Country BBQ – if you are near Chinatown/ Penn Quarter you must try it! I never was a huge BBQ fan, but it was a pretty neat place and the food was great- I even managed to find something I could eat on the menu: I got a salad with market chicken, and it wasn’t overly salted at all, and the portion was actually smaller than I thought it would be. For someone who likes pulled pork or brisket or meat in general, this is your place. I hear their mac & cheese and other side dishes are also to-die-for.

Post-lunch sweet cravings hit (hmm… connection to the restaurant-prepared food?) so it was a good thing I had a little treat from my CF buddy! Becky decided to experiment with paleo flourless chocolate cakes this weekend, so I got a sample of one 🙂 It was made with 100% dark chocolate, cocoa, egg, unsweetened applesauce, and agave nectar. (Am I missing anything?) It was pretty paleo, and basically caused an explosion of joy in my mouth.

It tasted as rich and amazing as it looks! I only ate half of this tiny guy and am saving the rest for tomorrow!

In the late afternoon, with the temperature upwards of 80 degrees, Paula and I decided it was time to venture to TangySweet for frozen yogurt. Honestly, this is not Paleo at all… first of all it’s dairy (which is justified for some people, like myself who needs the calcium) but moreover, it has sugar! (1/2 cup has 14 grams) Not terrible, but my taste buds were once again jumping for joy at this drug-like substance. I got the “classic” flavor with raspberries and fully enjoyed it, and basking in the sun 🙂

Gotta indulge every once in a while...

Dinner was the remaining broccoli in my fridge, sauteed in coconut oil, garlic powder, and a little salsa, along with a chicken sausage. Also had 1/2 apple with almond butter. I’m excited to try some new chef-prepared meals this week- I’ll be doing less cooking than usual since I didn’t do a massive grocery shop this weekend.
