Foodielicious Weekend

Finally, some time to post about my fabulous weekend! I had a lovely visitor in town to see some favorite DC sites and to eat at the best restaurants. She has frequented DC a handful of times in the past year so she knows a bunch of my fav spots, but we decided to be adventurous and try a few new places too…

Busboys & Poets - actually rated as Best Place to Take an Out-of-Town Guest!

Poached pear salad

After brunch, it was time to do some walking– at the zoo! Too bad most of the animals were sleeping… but we did get to see some zebras, and hear a lion roar really loudly (kinda scary)!

I've been wanting to take this picture for 5 years!!

This was the closest we could get to an adorable mammal...

After walking the entire length of the zoo (and realizing it does not, in fact, loop around in a circle), melting in the great ape house, and getting run over by millions of strollers, we decided a trip to Frozen Yo was much needed and well deserved πŸ™‚ Self-serve Froyo is most definitely the way to go!

Demonstrating proper sampling technique (aka trying every single flavor)

I clearly need to take some lessons on proper frozen yogurt etiquette...

We had a late dinner in Dupont Circle at Agora, a mediterranean restaurant. I would give it a 10 for ambiance and a 10 for taste as well, and probably a 9 for value. (very small portions) The lighting was unfortunate, so I only have one good picture…

Cold plates: stuffed eggplant and beet salad

Sunday we essentially planned to repeat Saturday, except with different sights and food!

Starting out Sunday morning with a walk on the C&O Canal Trail in Georgetown

Of course, it was time to treat ourselves to a yummy breakfast at the BEST CUPCAKE PLACE IN DC THE WORLD.

Showing off our Baked & Wire cupcakes (and iced tea!) with the back drop of all of the cupcakes we almost took home

After some intense pondering, we decided to split the vanilla latte and the carrot cake cupcakes.

Oh, and we also could not resist the zucchini bread! (This ended up being my favorite, beating the cupcakes!)

Of course she insisted on visiting the "other" cupcake place in Georgetown - home of TLC's "DC Cupcakes" show

But come on- who wants to wait on this kind of line for a cupcake when you could be enjoying Baked & Wired?

We finished off the weekend with our favorite meal of all time — sushi! Since not many sushi places are open at 4 PM on a Sunday, we went to the Sushi Ko in Chevy Chase, and were even able to sit outside! I think we got a little excited about the rolls, because I only managed to snap one picture during the meal…

Seaweed Salad

Probably one of the best food filled weekends I’ve had in a while- and I was so lucky to share all my favorite food in this wonderful city with my best friend. Looking forward to trying even more new places next time– and going back to Baked & Wired for that chocolate mocha cupcake πŸ˜‰
